LBA wanted to let you all know about a free Brownfields workshop being co-hosted by the Acadiana Planning Commission, Louisiana Brownfields Association, Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and Technical Assistance to Brownfields Program (TAB) at Kansas State University. The workshop will run from 9:30am until about 4:00pm on the 15th with lunch provided; and 9:30am until noon on the 16th.

Day 1, May 15 Topics: “Leveraging Brownfields Resources for Recreational and Cultural Tourism” Does your community have an abandoned building, old gas station or other potentially contaminated building that is impeding your communities’ future growth? Topics will focus on identifying Brownfields in your community, regional opportunities to integrate natural resources and cultural resources for community building, creative place making, and enhancing quality of life. Information for local governments, non-profit organizations, community stakeholders, and other partners will be discussed.

Day 2, May 16: Interactive Resource Roundtable: Day 2 will consist of an interactive roundtable with a panel of experts to answer questions and review your site(s). With this in mind we ask that you complete the application form to the best of your ability (see link above). Attendees will present their site information to the panel of experts, and plenty of time will be allowed for addressing site-specific issues and strategies. The end result from the panel will be a comprehensive strategy for redevelopment tailored to your community needs.
