Local Brownfield Success Story - Former Haywilk Galvanizing Facility

In September, EPA officials joined project members, LDEQ staff and local government officials, to recognize the successful completion of the Former Haywilk Galvanizing Facility, located in Gretna, LA. Project details are below: The 2.25-acre Gulf Coast Scrap & Salvage, Inc. site historically operated as Haywilk Galvanizing, a “hot dip” galvanizing facility, for over 60 years. Prior to the closure of the facility in 2005, two molten zinc pits and a hydrochloric acid pit for production of zinc-galvanized steel and iron were present on the property. In 2011, a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) was completed prior to a property transaction to identify potential environmental concerns
